‘Keyboard’
Presenting accordion, bayan and virtual harmonium (microtones via MIDI) to four composers from very diverse origins can only lead to a clash of cultures and eras. Wilbert Bulsink and Aliona Yurtsevich are young composers, fascinated by musical inter-culturality and human alienation, who continually collide with clichés. Kristof Lauwers has done outstanding things with robots in Logos, but he’ll set them aside for his TRANSIT commission.
Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf and Enno Poppe may be fixtures on the German new music scene, but they’re still coming up with surprisingly new sounds. Accordionist Luka Juhart will strut his stuff in the fiendishly difficult premiere by Mahnkopf.
